Dairy Division Members – When you find your self transferring from one dairy company to another, or you’re a new hire, it is very important you contact your Local Union ASAP. It will also be important to talk with your Local Union Business Representative and Shop Steward to discuss contractual benefits.

Dairy Division Grievance Panels - Did You Know – Most Dairy contracts have language in the grievance process to have a Joint Labor-Management Committee hearing meeting in order to attempt resolution in cases such as discharge, lost wages and Job bids. Since May of 2008 there was a need to hold Thirteen (13) Joint Labor-Management Grievance Panels with the following results: Six (6) Terminations overturned, Four (4) Terminations upheld, Two (2) Terminations dead locked, with two (2) cases parties were able to reach an agreement to reinstate, One (1) Contractual Violation dead locked, one (1) panel pending for lost wages.

Please review the section of your contract "Settlement of Controversies", or "Grievances" to determine when your grievance must be filed.

When any dispute arises, an attempt shall first be made to settle the matter amicably by conference between you, a Union steward if so desired, and your immediate supervisor. If called upon at this step of the grievance procedure, a Union representative and supervisor or other representative of the Company may also attempt settlement.

If you are unable to resolve the issue at the first step and you wish to pursue the issue, then you must submit a grievance form in writing with a copy to your Employer and Union, within the time frame specified in your contract.

Also, it is very important that you read the "Weingarten Rights" section on our Local 166 web site.
